It was love at first sight when Anita and her husband saw Honey on the RSCPA rehoming website. She had been a prosecution case and was in kennels for a long time.
“I printed out her picture”, says Anita, “I’d look at it and then put it in the bin, only to find my husband would take it out and look at it. There was just something about her.”
They finally met Honey at the start of August and instantly knew she would be part of their family. She came home six days later.
Before lockdown, Honey would go to work with Anita every day.
“We would head out for a walk before work, come rain or shine, then would always have a stretch when I had a break. At lunch, we could get out for an hour and then grab another run on the way home.”
Honey was a busy lady, but her favourite place was the beach.
“She loves chasing seabirds, but she thinks she’s got wings. She can’t actually swim, but she goes out as far as she can and just wants to play with them. She’s a lunatic on the beach!”
And it’s no different when they head into the woods! She can’t resist the scent of a squirrel and loves scurrying around in the undergrowth.
But Anita started to notice that Honey wasn’t herself.
“The change in her was gradual, but one day, we had been at the beach, and I noticed she was limping. We took it easy for a few weeks, but she started holding her back leg up, even when she was just standing eating her dinner.”
Honey needed help getting up the stairs at night, and she couldn’t get in from the garden on her own.
Anita took Honey to her veterinary surgeon, Rob Davies, at Bromborough Vets4Pets.
“I found him via reviews. He had glowing references for orthopaedics, and he looks at all the alternatives, including complementary medicine like acupuncture. I made an appointment straight away, and Honey had some x-rays.”
“We were worried that she may have luxating patellas, but Rob said that it wasn’t that. He showed me her x-ray, and there were all these little nodules around the joint. She has it in both back legs, but it was much worse in the one she was holding up.”
The nodules in Honey’s joint are osteophytes or bone spurs. They are a common presentation in osteoarthritis. As osteoarthritis progresses, healthy cartilage is lost and mobility starts to deteriorate.
“Rob recommended trying Antinol® to support her normal mobility. He had seen great results with it, including in his colleague’s German Shepherd.”
Antinol® is a powerful joint supplement that is suitable for lifelong usage. It helps maintain healthy mobility by supporting the metabolism of the joint in the case of osteoarthritis. Veterinary surgeons recommend Antinol® as part of their multi-modal management of osteoarthritis.
“We saw a difference by the end of the first week. She wasn’t limping as much, and she was moving about the house more. After two weeks, there was no limping at all!”
“With Antinol®, she was happy. On a scale of one to ten, I’d say she started this process at a one, and now? Well, now, she’s a fifteen!”
“Antinol® is a bit of a wonder supplement; it’s certainly done wonders for Honey. We were so worried about her. We went into the veterinary surgeon full of dread. Seeing her struggling was awful. She’s like my child, and I just wanted her to be happy. Now, just with Antinol®, she’s full of life.”
“I sit working at my desk and glance up. She’s out in the garden, rolling around on the grass, giving it all the wiggle, and it just makes me smile. She’s herself again.”
Honey is now getting ready for some serious squirrel chasing action as they head off on their annual trip to Scotland. “I said to my husband, ‘I think we’ll have to put her in kennels this year. She won’t be able to keep up with us.’ We almost cancelled the trip. But now we have no worries about taking her. We know that with Antinol®, she can keep going. She’ll be off exploring and chasing squirrels.”
And what would Anita say to other pet parents struggling with their pet's mobility?
“As far as I’m concerned, it’s like having a child. You love them so much, and you’ll do anything to make them happy. Definitely give Antinol® a go. The difference in Honey is unbelievable. Why wouldn’t you give it a try?
Honey is happy, I’m happy, Antinol® is brilliant! What more could I ask for?”
